Child care is task-full; parent should care for their children promptly. In this part 2, I will discuss the other 9 ailments. In the first article I discussed 7 of them. Read on.
Common cold (catarrh)
Children are often with catarrh this is because they have not built enough immunity to resist it, but with time they will outgrown it. It is an infective disease and is caused by rhino virus.
Causes – cold environment, infected persons.
Symptoms – fever, difficulty in breathing and sucking, constant sneezing itchy and discomfort around the nostril and lungs discharges from the nose.
Treatment – Give vitamin C syrup to the child or give oranges.
Preventive measures – don’t over expose your child to cold and always massage his body with warm water when there is cold.
Bull neck disease
It is an air born disease caused by bacteria.
Causes – dirty environment, poor housing, infected person, over crowding etc.
Symptoms – Month odor, neck swelling, and fowl smell discharge through the nostrils.
Treatment – make sure that when a child is up to 6 weeks that a vaccine called diphtheria pertussis and tetanus ( DPT) is administer to the child.
Preventive measures – Make sure you immunize your child at 6 weeks, keep clean and don’t live close to sewage disposal areas.
Boils
It is the appearance of boils on the head, faces, and skin and this is because the hair follicle has been infected.
Causes – It is mainly caused by poor nutrition and hygiene.
Symptoms – Fever, pains, weakness, week eyes.
Treatment – Give your child healthy food in order to boost immunity, also give the child antibiotics.
Prevention – Feed your child with nutritious meal and keep clean.
Malaria
It is caused by mosquito bites (female anopheles mosquitoes)
Causes – Living in swampy and/or slum areas, dirty environment, staying close to bushes because they are breeding places for mosquito.
Symptoms – Catarrh accompanied with cough, loss of appetite, fever, frequent stool, vomiting, etc.
Treatment – Visit your health care center and give the child Paracetamol to first calm the temperature.
Prevention – Use mosquito treated net to protect the child from mosquito bites.
Conjunctivitis
It is an infection of the eye.
Causes – Bad water that enters the eye during Child’s birth, sleeping foam or bed sheet.
Symptoms – Eye discharge, redness of the eye, eye itching.
Treatment – An eye expert is needed for proper treatment.
Prevention – Make sure that the child sleeps on a very neat bed sheet.
Polio
Paralysis of the limb until it gradually deforms it.
Causes – It is caused by eating an infected food that has been contaminated with the feces of a particular virus.
Symptoms – Fever, cough and catarrh weakness of the limb.
Treatment – Take the child to your health care provider.
Prevention – Make sure that the child is immunized against polio if not go to the health centers and ask questions.
Chicken pox
It is caused by chicken pox virus and is highly contagious.
Cause – Infected person.
Symptoms – High fever, headache, pain all over the body, rashes from head to toe.
Treatment – The child should be given antibiotics, calamine lotion should be applied to reduce itching you can also use 7 keys to power. You can go for vaccination at the nearest health center.
is Prevention – Infected child should not be allowed to stay with other children.
Otitis media
It is an infection of the inner ear.
Cause – Lack of care for the ear, when you always lie to breast feed your baby the breast milk can flow to the ear and infect the ear.
Symptoms – Pains in the ear and part of the ear.
Treatment – Visit the health care provider.
Prevention – Always clean the child ear and support the child’s head with a pillow.
Tetanus
It is caused by a bacteria found in the dust.
Cause – When open wounds are not properly treated, cords, circumcision, ear piercing etc.
Symptom – Fowl smell from the infected part, fever, loss of apatite etc.
Treatment – Open wounds should be properly cared for and treated and vaccination should be administered.
Prevention – The child should be immunized against tetanus infection.
Parents should always ask questions when they are not clear about the child’s health, help your child to stay and remain healthy because that is the only way you can get the best out of your child. To read the part 1 of this article click here
